Cruisin Classics is pleased to offer you this 1956 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer. This car was the top trim level of the Dodge line in 1956, and its cool 50's styling is a feast for the eyes. If you've been looking for a classic car that's fun to drive, turns heads, and doesn't break the bank, then this Dodge may well be the end of your search. The reason this car is so affordable is that it is in driver-quality condition, with paint and chrome flaws, as well as some interior items that could use a little TLC. It runs and drives great though, and from 10 feet away, it looks fantastic - it's just not going to win first place at a car show. This Custom Royal 2-door hardtop is dressed in what Dodge called "flair fashion 3-tone paint", in this case a combination of Sky Blue and Royal Blue topped with a white roof. The paint is accented by tons of chrome trim that really grabs attention. Up front, there's a chrome band on the hood as well as a "V" badge beneath. Below the hood lip is a split chrome-toothed grille separated by a colorful crest badge at the center. Beneath is a large chrome grill with bumper guards. Flanking the grille on the fenders are round headlights with bright bezels. Moving around to the side, you'll see dual chrome side mirrors seated atop the rear of the fenders. Chrome is everywhere, with windshield and window trim, drip rail molding, body side molding, C-pillar molding, and door handles all adding to the "bling". Adding to the side view are bright chrome non-OEM hubcaps all encircled by Coker Classic wide white wall tires - a perfect complement to this Mopar. Looking toward the rear, you'll see "Custom Royal" and "V crest" badging just below the iconic tailfins. The fins are home to some futuristic after-burner taillights set in a white background and surrounded by chrome trim. The decklid features a "V" badge and another colorful crest like the one up front. Below is another chrome bumper with guards (not as nice as the one in front) and chrome exhaust tips peeking out from underneath. Both fins are topped with rear-leaning antenna mounts, but the antennas are broken off. The passenger side of the car has been equipped with curb feelers to assist with parallel parking.
Under the hood is a very original-looking engine bay that is home to what we believe to be a 315ci "Red Ram" V-8. The engine is topped off with red valve covers, a stock intake, a 2-barrel carburetor, and an oil-bath air cleaner. What appears to be the original generator is linked to a power steering unit that makes this large car much easier to maneuver. Ahead of the engine is a new-looking Champion aluminum radiator that keeps everything running cool. Exhaust flows through cast manifolds and glass-pack-style mufflers before exiting the chrome tips at the rear. The V-8 is paired with a 2-speed PowerFlite automatic transmission. Stopping power comes via vacuum-assisted 4-wheel drum brakes.
Open the driver's door to find that the blue/white/chrome scheme continues inside as well. The door panels are done in blue and white vinyl with bright accents and correct handles and window cranks. The rear side panels continue the style of the doors. Both the front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in blue vinyl, and the front seat has some staining but no rips or tears. Underfoot is an older blue carpet, and overhead is a white vinyl headliner. Tucked under the holder of the rearview mirror is a laminated 1966 Ohio registration card for the car - a cool little extra. Ahead of the driver is what appears to be the original steering wheel that's dressed in blue and white with a bright (non-working) horn ring and center. The dash is painted in blue and white as well, with brighter trim elements. To the drivers left on the dashboard is a pod that contains the unique push-button shifter for the 2-speed automatic. The gauge cluster itself includes amps, fuel, a speedometer, oil, and temp. The odometer reads 94,501 miles, and the title claims that to be the actual mileage. Under the gauges are controls for the working blower, defrost, temperature (cool/warm), lights, and 2-speed wipers. There is an original AM push-button Town & Country radio (inop.) in the dash and a newer Dual Bluetooth stereo mounted under the dash (also inop.). Under the dashboard to the driver's right is a lever for the cowl air vent, and to the left is the emergency brake with a light that reminds you that it's engaged. Ahead of the passenger is a glovebox with an owner's manual and a 1956 brochure for the car. Atop the dash is an aftermarket compass. Around back, you'll find a carpeted trunk with blue side panels and a non-matching spare & jack.
This '56 Dodge Royal Custom Lancer is the pinnacle of 1950s Mopar style and something you just don't see at car shows very often. It's an attention-getter for sure, and it's hard not to smile ear to ear when you're cruising around in it! This is a rare opportunity to own your own piece of 1950s automotive history for a reasonable price - especially for a 2-door hardtop model! Give our friendly staff a call today, don't wait, this cool ride surely won't be here for long.
