The Lada Niva is a legendary vehicle with a strong following worldwide. The Niva was developed to combine the speed of a Lada with the capability of a UAZ 469, capable of handling the harshest terrain and conditions in the Soviet Union. It accomplishes this thanks to a simple yet rugged 1.6L overhead-cam 4-cylinder engine, a permanent 4-wheel-drive system with high/low ranges, a locking differential, and tall, narrow tires and wheels, and its famous, fully independent front suspension. Another fun fact: it is the first unibody SUV ever produced.

HISTORY
About 15 years ago, a dedicated team of Niva restoration specialists was commissioned to locate the earliest possible example from the first production year in the best condition available. After an extensive search, they secured this one--production number 2152--and began what can only be described as an open-checkbook restoration. The process was extraordinary. The team completely disassembled the vehicle and restored the unibody to factory specifications. Simultaneously, two members traveled to the original factory to purchase every mechanical component brand-new, from the smallest cotter pin to major drivetrain assemblies--engine, axles, transmission, transfer case, and more. These parts were shipped back and meticulously installed, resulting in a vehicle that looks, feels, and drives almost exactly like a brand-new 1977 Niva. Adding to its provenance, this car was gifted to a high-ranking Russian military official, who stored it in a heated garage at his dacha (summer home) and never drove it. Years later, his grandson persuaded him to sell, and we acquired it through a broker about a decade ago for our collection.
CONDITION
The Lada is in amazing, museum-like condition with minimal wear consistent with ultra-low mileage and exceptional care. It drives flawlessly and is a joy to operate.
