Vehicle Description
For consignment, a 1989 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 4 door sedan showing 6,158 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Of the 32,756 Fleetwoods produced in 1989, a majority 26,641 were four door sedans while 4,108 were two door coupes and 2,007 were the Sixty Special luxury edition.
Exterior
By today's standards, the billboard shaped front end of the car, vertical and flat, is something of a bygone era and instead of shedding the oncoming wind, the big grille was to absorb it, and the bigger, the better! Headlights stand straight like Centurions at each post while the bumper and protruding bumperette dare anything to get in the way. From there, the long front end is a combination of flat plains and long panels, here in Sable Black and topped by a dark blue vinyl top where we note some blotchiness but a fully intact piece adorned with gold emblems. Stainless accenting includes rocker panel trim and chrome includes tail light housing, bumpers, side mirrors, and door handles. Imperfections include some generally dull paint, fading or oxidized emblems, a drilled hole in the hood, and some peeling paint. The 15-inch wire wheel covers are in good condition.
Interior
Dark blue leather meets simulated wood and brushed aluminum on the doors for an over the top attractive presentation and other than some light patina on the driver's door, they appear clean and intact. Once inside, the blue leather biscuit tufted seats, front and rear, show some drying and patina with visible light cracking throughout with some penetrating the surface. The steering wheel also shows a good bit of age but once you get past that, the dashboard presents cleanly with its horizontal speedometer and plethora of plastic wood trim. An AM/FM/Cassette player resides in the center along with the push button climate control panel, all over plush blue carpet that shows some age and a foam backed headliner that's fully intact and housing an overhead console. A cavernous trunk is covered in cloth panels and shows minor usage.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a driver quality but complete 5.0 liter V8 putting out a smog checked 140 horsepower and fueled via a 4-barrel carburetor. The common 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission is behind it pushing power back to the 10 bolt rear with 2.79 highway gears. We note the insulator pad is a bit tattered.
Undercarriage
Surface rust abounds and there's some oil on the rear differential along with a film on the oil pan but otherwise an unremarkable underside. The single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and power brakes are distributed as front disc and rear drums. Suspension puts coil springs front and rear with a 4 link on the back.
Drive-Ability
The car comes with the key in the ignition because it's currently stuck there, but it does allow us to start the car and we're immediately met with a few lights on the dash including the level ride light and the brake light. We note the power antenna motor running non stop and the right rear window is not working. Beyond that, the ride is smooth as can be and the big land yacht tracks straight, providing a very comfortable interior with leg room and elbow room for days. The A/C is not working and other than the previous items mentioned, remaining functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Still one of the great luxury cars to come from an American manufacturer, these 70's and 80's Cadillacs will be regarded in future years the way Caddies of the 50's and 60's are looked at today. Dinosaurs, yes, but also classic representations of the time and the preferred brand for the upper middle class. This one's got plenty of love to give.
