WHAT IS AN ABS SENSOR ?
The anti-lock braking system uses an ABS sensor or wheel sensor to monitor the wheel speed and send this information to the ABS computer. The ABS computer uses this information to prevent the brakes from locking during an emergency stop. If wheel speeds are not equal, the computer modulates the anti-lock feature until the speeds are equalized.
If an ABS sensor fails, the car reverts to normal braking with no potential for ABS monitoring or modulation of pressure when a wheel, or wheels, lock up in a braking situation. Without ABS, a wheel will automatically lock up in slippery and/or gravel-like conditions, as well as potentially experience a loss of directional control and vehicle stability.
WHERE ARE THESE SENSORS LOCATED?
The ABS sensor is typically located in each wheel hub/rotor on a four channel ABS system. Some rear wheel drive applications have the sensor mounted in the rear differential.Each vehicle contains a varying amount of ABS wheel speed sensors.

How to Replace an ABS Speed Sensor?
Materials Needed:
- Brake cleaner
- Jack stands
- Multimeter
- Ratchet
- Sand paper
- Spray penetrant
- Sil-Glyde
- Scan Tool
- Socket set

Install the speed sensor：
Step 1: Gain access to the sensor. Often, you will need to remove a wheel or bracket to access the sensor. This will vary depending on the vehicle and the sensor that you are replacing.
Step 2: Remove the sensor.Once you have accessed the sensor, disconnect the connector and remove the single bolt that secures the sensor.
Step 3: Take note of the sensor wire routing. Ensure you note down the correct sensor wire path as it is crucial that the sensor wire be routed correctly. Failing to do this will result in damage wiring and a failed repair.
Step 4: Clean the sensor mounting hole.
Step 5: Clean the tone ring of all fine metal.
Step 6: Prepare to install the sensor.
Step 7: Insert the sensor into its mounting hole.
Step 8: Route the sensor wire along the correct path.
Step 9: Connect the sensor connector to the vehicle connector.
Step 10: Clear the code and test drive your vehicle.
