Installation Steps
Step 1: Position the Starter: Place the new starter in the correct location in the engine bay, ensuring that the mounting surface and locating tabs (for radial positioning) of the starter are in good contact with the mounting surface of the engine block or transmission, free of oil and rust.
Step 2: Mount the Starter: Secure the starter to the engine or transmission using the appropriate bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly in a criss-cross pattern to avoid misalignment.
Step 3: Connect Wiring:
- Tighten the M10 nut on the electromagnetic switch terminal to the specified torque (typically 14.7 to 17.7 N·m). Insufficient torque can cause loose wiring, increased heat, and circuit voltage drop, affecting starting performance and potentially causing fire or corrosion. Excessive torque can damage the terminal.
- Ensure all wiring harnesses are connected correctly, without any loose connections or shorts.
Step 4: Apply Grease: Apply a suitable amount of grease to the bearings and sliding parts of the starter to reduce wear and improve efficiency.
Step 5: Adjust Clearances (if necessary): Adjust the length of the adjustable bolts to ensure the gap between the limit nut and the drive wheel is within the specified range (e.g., 1-4 mm) for precise starter operation.
Step 6: Inspection and Testing:
- After installation, start the vehicle and check that the starter engages smoothly with the engine flywheel to initiate cranking.
- Once the engine is running steadily, reconnect the battery ground wire.
- Finally, test the starter's operation to ensure everything is functioning correctly.
