Signs that your Fuel Pump is failing:
1.Difficulty Starting – as a critical component in the fuel delivery system, a bad fuel pump can cause the engine to fail and hard to start.
2.Sputtering engine at high-speed driving – this is common for failing fuel pump due to failure of delivering a smooth flow of fuel to the engine.
3.Losing power when accelerating – accelerating means more fuel consumption. Thus, pulling a large volume of fuel from a failing fuel pump can cause operational disturbance.
4.Decreased fuel efficiency – if you can notice the engine is consuming more fuel than usual, this might be a sign of a damaged fuel pump. The unit might not be sending the correct amount of fuel.
5.Engine won’t start – complete component failure. When other signs are ignored, unable to start the engine entirely is not impossible.
How to replace Fuel Pump?
1. Park the vehicle on a firm, level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Find the fuel pump, which on most vehicles is in the fuel tank. Once located, open the fuel cap and have an assistant turn the key to the ON position while you listen at the filler opening. The fuel pump will hum for two to three seconds, if working properly. If no sound is made, replacing the pump may be necessary.
3. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Siphon or drain as much fuel as possible from the fuel tank. Disconnect the filler tube hose and the electrical connection to the pump.
5. Support the fuel tank with a jack and a block of wood.Remove any retaining straps or bolts holding the tank to the frame. Lower the tank.
6. Disconnect the fuel lines and remove the fuel pump from the tank.Compare the new fuel pump with the original to verify that you have the correct part. Install the new fuel pump.
7. Connect the fuel lines to the pump. Lift the fuel tank up and install the retaining strap. Reconnect the filler tube hose and the electrical connector.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Fill the tank with gas. Conduct a road test to confirm a successful repair.
