Offered here is a McIntosh MC 2105 stereo power amplifier. This unit is in very good condition and works great. I've done the following work on it:
-Replaced the electrolytic caps including the large power supply capacitors.
-Replaced the film capacitors.
-Replaced the inrush current limiters (one of the originals was broken).
-Replaced burned out panel lamps.
-Replaced the rotary power switch.
-Cleaned and lubricated pots and switches.
-Calibrated the panel meters per factory spec.
-General dusting and cleanup.
The package weighs 81 lbs. and will ship in an actual 2105 double box carton obtained from Audio Classics. Make sure you have a good hand truck or some help when the package arrives. Included will be the instruction and service manuals and a few new replacement panel lamps.
General notes:
Cosmetically, this unit is in very good condition. There are some age and use related scuffs and scratches. Please see the photos.
The 4 section aluminum can capacitor, chassis underside, was found to have one bad section so I replaced the whole unit with 4 modern radial lead caps mounted to an Adapt-a-Cap PC board. See photos before/after.
Operational notes:
I tested the 2105 for several days and had it setup side by side next to an MC 7200 driving a pair of JBL L100T3s for A/B comparison. I never had the opportunity to compare an auto-transformer coupled amp like the 2105 with a direct coupled amp like the 7200. I am not the most discerning listener but I could definitely hear the subtle tonal differences on the high and low ends between the two. I would describe the 2105 as bit softer and warmer sound than the 7200. My source material was CD derived FLAC files played by a WIIM Ultra music streamer.
