Some 18 years after the last installment, Disco 5 marks the return of the Boys' long-running remix series. Since its debut in 1986, Disco has been an outlet for Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe to reframe their music in a club context focused on alternate versions, remixes and B-sides that suit the dancefloor. Unlike the earlier volumes, however, Disco 5 primarily showcases remixes and collaborations the duo have created for other artists since Disco 4, making it feel as much a retrospective of their non-album works. The 12-track set spans from 2008's symphonic remix of Sam Taylor-Johnson's 'I'm In Love With A German Film Star' to this year's excellent mix of Tina Turner's 'Hot For You Baby'. Along the way, they reinterpret Primal Scream, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, The Hidden Cameras and even reinvent Sleaford Mods' cover of their own 'West End Girls'. One unexpected highlight is the inclusion of Carroll Thompson's 'Let The Music Play', a Pet Shop Boys production tied to The Crying Game soundtrack, finally revived after years out of print. Dance music has always been at the core for the group, so it's no surprise this series has become a favourite for fans.
