Hunter are one of those many photographic accessory brands that produced some excellent items including a very credible range of budget-priced filters.
A polarising filter is placed in front of a camera lens in photography in order to
a) darken skies without affecting colour temperature
b) manage and reduce reflections seen in glass, water and other surfaces
c) suppress glare from the surface of water
Reflected light (and most skylight) is partially polarised, so a polarising filter can be used to alter the balance of these light in a photograph. The rotational orientation of the filter is adjusted for the preferred artistic effect. For modern & digital cameras, a circular polariser (usually labelled CPL) is recommended; this comprises a linear polariser which performs the effect, followed by a quarter-wave plate which further transforms this linear-polarised light into circularly-polarised light before entering the camera, to avoid exposure issues and focusing errors with auto-focus and light-metering sensors within modern cameras.
This circular polarising filter is in 55mm thread size, but can be used with other thread sizes with an appropriate stepping adapter ring
This is a Unbranded Circular Polarising special effect filter in 55mm size, in very good, optically clean and little-used condition
