An overlooked part that is probably not in the best of shape after 50 years!

Grommets have a fairly straightforward job - keep wires from rubbing on the metal where they go through the body and chassis. However, some of them are in weird locations and are much more complicated than just a simple round piece of rubber with a hole in it. This grommet is used in two places - from 1968-1971 it's where the ignition and turn signal switch wiring run and then from 72-on it's used where the ignition switch wires run under the dash. VW is not specific on this grommet's applications so be sure to check the hole size on your Beetle to verify this will fit before ordering it.
Do it once, do it right!
