This is of course a 1959 Ford Skyliner, retractable
hardtop. I have owned it since 2015 and
I got it from that late Retractable Guru Howard Voigt. He was a 45 year friend
of mine. I got this from him when he was thinning his collection of 150 cars. He told me at the time it was
the most rust free 1959 he had even obtained in probably 60 years of dealing
with the retractable.
It sat in his Arizona garage for over 30 years. A
restoration was started by the prior
owner before Howard obtained it but never finished or driven. It was repainted, engine rebuild and a C6
transmission was installed. It is a 352 (number matching ?) with cruise o matic and power steering. I have a power brake set up to install if wanted. It is an early 59
since it still has Fairlane 500 on the qtr. panel before they switched to
Galaxie script. Also it has a T and C radio option. Passenger window is cracked but have replacement.
I got it running, redid the brakes and added new carpet, head
liner and cards for the trunk area a
new radiator and various other things. Slip covers were put over the
original seats because wear to the original front seats. I believe the inserts were
frayed. But I have original material and a complete back seat and front seat backs in the original color (rare Gold) to use the better and
keep original
I than put it on display in our car museum here is
Sacramento in 2016. It is currently at the museum. When I took it to
the museum it ran and drove and stopped and the top worked perfectly. Since, it has not been started or driven for over
9 years it should be checked out before starting and driving.
Top still works great, operated it probably 5 years ago.
As stated above I have correct material to correct any
defect in the seats to keep it original and also have a spare correct cruise o matic transmission and linkage to put
in it to bring it back to original.
Currently registered and insured in my name on Non opt .
