OF THE CAR ARE AVAILABLE by phoning the owner Brad at 818-943-1059
I am selling my restored
1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite. I have owned the car for 5 years here in
Prescott, Arizona. The car has many of its original parts, such as its numbers-matching
948cc engine, 2-spoke steering wheel, and optional BMC factory hardtop. During
the car’s restoration by a previous owner, its original Leaf Green exterior
with green interior was updated with striking Light British Racing Green single-stage
paint along with a black vinyl interior.
The original 948cc
engine was rebuilt less than 5k miles ago in 2013 and has been updated with a
PerTronix electronic ignition distributor, Flame-Thrower ignition coil, and a
spin-on oil filter adapter kit. At the same time, a fully-rebuilt Sprite Mark
IV rib case transmission and new clutch were installed. The car has also been
updated with front wheel disc brakes, new rear shocks, front anti-roll bar,
tubular exhaust header, and a flip-forward bonnet.
The car's original H1 SU
carburetors have been rebuilt with new Viton-tipped float valves and Teflon jet
seals and have been carefully tuned so the car starts easily and runs properly.
The original factory radiator has been restored as well as recored to enhance its cooling
capability.
The routine maintenances
performed on the car by the current owner are the following (and documented in service invoices provided):
- Engine oil & filter change – July 2025
- Tune up w/plugs, distributor cap
& rotor, timing, and tune SU carbs – January 2024
- Installed new 12v battery – September 2023
- New radiator and heater hoses, fan belt,
& coolant – May 2023
- Engine oil & filter change and chassis
lube – May 2021
I have done
considerable work to restore the engine bay and its components closer to
factory stock appearance. This included installing a new, period-correct
cloth-wrapped wiring harness, coolant hose wire clamps, concours-quality heater
blower air inlet hose with wire clamps, and restoring and reinstalling the
car’s original factory bolts and p-clips.
I have also restored
the interior of the car, which included reupholstering the dashboard, original
door pocket cards, and cockpit scuttle molding using correct Vynide
leathercloth sourced from the U.K. All of the factory-correct Smiths gauges
were cleaned and recalibrated. The car’s original 2-spoke steering wheel was
restored with hand-polished black acrylic urethane paint by Gary’s Steering
Wheel of Carlisle, PA. A new German Feintuft Luxury Velour carpet kit with
hand-rolled edge binding was also sourced from the U.K. and installed in the
car. Retractable 3-points seat belts with period-look chrome latch buckles were
also installed. And all of the aluminum cockpit trim has been restored with hand
sanding and polishing.
The car has a complete
matching set of 5 (includes the spare) Minator alloy wheels
with 155/80R13 Kumho Solus TA11 radial tires having DOT manufacturing date
codes of June 2021. The spare tire is secured in the boot with factory correct
hold-down straps.
All the car's
instruments, controls, and features work correctly, including the headlights, taillights,
turn signals, license plate light, dash lights, horn, heater & fan,
windshield wipers, and windshield washers.
The car is a beautiful,
multiple award-winning show car. It won First Place Best in Class in the MG Midget/A-H
Sprite Class at the 2023 Arizona MG Club’s British Wheels on the Green (BWOG)
car show. This is the largest All-British car show held in the state of Arizona. The
car and its win at the BWOG show was featured in the January 2024 issue of the
Austin-Healey Club of America’s Healey Marque magazine (see last photo). The
following year, the car won First Place Best in Heritage Class, where it
competed against all the Best in Class winning cars from the previous year.
But the Bugeye is not
just a show car. It is a great driving vehicle, which starts, runs, and drives
as well as it looks. Watch the videos by clicking the links below to see and
hear the car start, shift, and perform.

The sale will also include the Bugeye Sprite’s original front bumper, brackets, and bolts along with the
bonnet hinges, release handle, latch, and other miscellaneous hardware received
from the previous owner which were removed during the flip-forward bonnet
conversion. Also included are the steel Bugeye Sprite wheels and hub caps that
were taken off to install the Minator alloy wheels. Other parts taken off the
car during refurbishment work, such as the Lucas points distributor, the
cartridge oil filter assembly, and body emblems, will also be included.
This Bugeye Sprite is being
offered for sale with its complete BMC factory tool kit, jack, Sutty tire air
pump, soft top, hardtop, side curtains, tonneau cover, service records, parts
invoices, original BMC sales brochures, reference books, its British Motor
Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Arizona paper title in the
seller’s name.
Interested buyers
should call Brad at 818-943-1059 so I can answer any questions and provide the
link to additional photos. I can also discuss arranging a time to see the car
in-person, which is located in Prescott, Arizona 86305.
I recommend inspecting
the car in person as it is being sold as-is, where-is with no warranties
expressed or implied. In addition to local pickup, I can assist the buyer in finding
suitable car transport. I also have the flexibility to store the car for the
new owner in my secure garage while car transport is arranged. However, all
transport shipping costs and arrangement are the responsibility of the buyer.
I am a PRIVATE SELLER
and NOT A DEALER. This means Arizona resident buyers will NOT pay Arizona sales
tax (or any dealer document fees) when titling and registering the car in
Arizona. This saves the buyer thousands of dollars compared to buying from an
in-state or out-of-state dealer that requires AZ sales tax to be paid.
In addition, there are
NO BUYER SALES COMMISSION OR BIDDER AUCTION FEES, associated with buying the
car from me on eBay. This saves the buyer thousands of dollars as there is no
need to pay a 5-10% auction commission fee associated with buying a collector
car on an online or at an in-person collector car auction.
