1976 CB400f project bike.
I purchased this bike in 1978 and used it for four years commuting to work and school. During that time I had two bikes and put the best motor in the best bike which is what I am selling here. The motor that is in the bike has far fewer miles than the original.
In 2005 the bike was prepped for vintage road racing with AHRMA. I raced it 5 weekends. The last time it ran was at the first vintage festival at Barber, where it ran all weekend without missing a beat.
The bike has been in storage ever since.
Some of the performance modifications are Yoshimera 458cc pistons fitted by Bore Tech and the exhaust headers built by Kaz Yoshima at Ontario Moto-Tech. I believe these pipes, which I purchased in 1979, are one of the original hand bent pipes, not the mass produced pipes sold later by Yoshimera. These pipes are extremely rare.
Even when racing the bike was never abused. The stock cam and valve springs prevented over reving, but the combination of the pipe and pistons allowed the bike to pull hard in the midrange and sound glorious while doing it.
To put this bike back on the track would only take two new tires and some number plates. A hot cam and stronger valve springs would take it to another level.
Making it street legal would be a project, but it would make an outstanding street bike. I believe most of the street legal parts are included in the sale. The biggest challenge would be the wiring harness which was chopped to a minimum. Also an assortment of common nuts and bolts would be needed to attach the street stuff.
Pictured are all the parts I have. Look closely as I know some parts are missing, such as front brake caliper, kickstart petal, mirrors and possibly others.
I will be sorry to see it go.
There is a clear Illinois title in my name.
