This is a great vintage camper in great condition. It was built by a gentleman named Chalmer Bowen, he was the lead flight engineer for Howard Hughes amd he helped fly the “Spruce Goose” Google him. He wanted a Dolphin camper for the quality but didn’t want it on a Toyota chassis so he ordered the Ford Chateau model ( top of the line) and he, his son and grandson assembled it. The camper was built and maintained meticulously throughout the years. We have been in contact with his family and they have confirmed this was his camper. It has everything on it that you could get in 1977. Including solar!! Although I didn’t retain the solar panels when we put the new roof on. It has all new 3/4 plywood with the rubber RV material. It has no leaks. It had a small leak behind a cabinet and we got the whole roof replaced. It has on board LPG. Everything works although we have never tried the furnace. We took the old generator out of it and we always used a new generator but that is not included. So we just used a small electric heater in it. The roof top AC works as it should.
My family and I live in MO but we have taken it to Florida, Colorado, Arizona and California. I have fuel receipts and lots of pictures I can share to prove my claims and would be happy to share. I also have receipts and the original owners manual from the person I bought it from I’m the 3rd owner. We don’t travel much anymore due to work and I don’t want it to just sit. It runs great, and we get compliments every time we take it somewhere. It also has air bags on the rear suspension and leveling jacks. The rear ones don’t work so I have a couple of sissor jacks the we put under the rear and it works fine. The wiring is still in place of you want to replace the rear jacks. It also has a dent on the drivers side n the camper part see pictures. The stove works and the fridge was working fine last time we had it out although I have since learned there was a recall for this particular model of refrigerator so I would replace it. It has a vacuum leak in the brake booster but I will have that replaced before I sell it. The cab AC doesn’t work but we just always used the roof mount AC. It has a new 100 amp alternator on it. When anything ever went wrong we always replaced or rebuilt it with upgraded parts. It also has new rear wheel cylinders and a new water pump both the engine and the fresh water pump on the inside. I replaced these as precautionary measures. It always passes a yearly MO safety inspection and I always ask them to check everything with the premise of if the mechanic was going to take their family across the country in it. We always tow a trailer with atvs and it never gets hot or has any weird issues. Other than the vacuum leak with the brake booster I would take off anywhere in the country with this and I have with my family. I have had upgraded electric fuel pumps installed at both tanks. I never used the rear tank because the selector switch that switches the tanks has a tendency to get stuck, it was just never a big issue for me so I just ran it from the front tank. The stove, oven water heat all work and as I said before I’m sure the furnace works we just never tried it. All the water tanks and waste tanks work as they should. This thing was custom and purposely built by MR. Bowen for he and his wife to travel in. It has many things built in that would take to long to mention here. The water lines have been upgraded to PEX it has no soft spots in the floor. Its dependable and has been a great RV for us. I would be glad to explain the whole history on this one of a kind Dolphin camper. There has never been another one built like this that we can find. As I stated they were mostly built on Toyota chassis. This one was custom built for MR. Bowen and he assembled it.
