1978 Yamaha DT400E. The bike is in excellent condition mechanically and very good condition aesthetically. I bought this bike with 2500 miles on it since it was the same as the one I had when I was 16.
The bike runs great. Starts up on 1 kick most of the time. I've had it on the street and the dirt. If you haven't driven a 400cc 2-stroke, then you don't understand what tire spinning, instant torque is. And it auto-injects the oil from a separate tank so you don't have to mix the gas/oil. I just replaced the front fork seals and put in a slightly heavier oil so it handles great in the dirt. I also put a brand new on/off switch on the handlebar.
The seat is like sitting on a cloud and for those of you with short legs, both of my toes can touch the ground and I'm 5'6". I just took it up Burnt Mountain 3 times so believe me, it can climb like a mountain lion. Tires are in excellent shape.
I rode my old bike from Vegas to LA and back (you will want taller gearing if you are doing more freeway driving) so it's very versatile. I also changed the oil and relaced the front brake pads. You won't find a better version of this bike anywhere.
There are a few small paint nicks on the tank as you can see in the picture. The rear turn signals have the rubber split but I have new ones. I also have new handles you can change to if you don't like the plastic ones.
This bike will last for years and it's built like a tank. I got 17,000 miles out of mine before I even had to change the piston so it will last a long time. Want to know what real enduros were like in the 70's, this was the kin
