-Tow Package:
A factory or heavy-duty tow package for a truck like the 1995 Chevrolet C3500 with the 7.4L V8 is more than just a hitch; it is a suite of mechanical and electrical upgrades designed to handle high-stress hauling.
Mechanical & Cooling Components
Because towing generates significant heat, a comprehensive package focuses on protecting the engine and transmission:
• External Transmission Cooler: A dedicated radiator that cools transmission fluid, preventing overheating during long hauls or steep grades.
• Engine Oil Cooler: Helps maintain lower oil temperatures under the heavy load of the "Big Block" 454 engine.
• Heavy-Duty Radiator: Often features a larger core or more rows for increased cooling capacity.
• Upgraded Axle Ratio: Usually includes a "shorter" gear ratio (like 4.10) to provide better low-end torque for moving heavy trailers.
Structural & Electrical Features
These components provide the physical connection and safety controls for your trailer:
• Receiver Hitch: A frame-mounted hitch, typically Class IV or Class V for a 1-ton truck, rated for high gross trailer weights.
• Wiring Harness: A 7-way round plug that provides power for trailer lights, turn signals, and electric brakes.
• Trailer Brake Controller: While often an add-on, a full package includes the pre-wiring or an integrated controller to sync the truck's brakes with the trailer’s.
Issues of a 30 year old truck:
-AC doesn’t blow as cold as I’d like
-Door handle is getting loose
-CD player doesn’t work(if you still use CD’s)
-Cosmetic issues like scratches and dings all around the truck...pictures should show them
15k or trade + cash.
I’m looking to downgrade to a smaller truck. I’m entertaining trades(a smaller truck...3 quarter ton) or trades + cash or all cash.
I’ve driven this truck across the country a few times with no issues...very reliable, especially up mountains with a load.
Lowball offers will be ignored. I’m in no hurry to sell.
This truck is rare and a classic. The 7.4 Liter 454 Big Block + Gasoline + Tow Package + southwest owned(I bought it out of California) make this truck a good investment...better than spending a 100k on one these trucks new.
