1.Resistance Check
Purpose: This test shall verify the coil is similar in construction to the coil in the OE sample.
Procedure: Measure resistance of the coil with Multimeter or LCR meter.
Criteria: Resistance shall be no less than 90% of OE sample.

2.Inductance Check
Purpose: Along with the resistance check, this test shall verify the coil and magnet in the device under test is similar in construction to the coil and magnet in the OE sample.
Procedure: Measure inductance with an LCR meter.
Criteria: Inductance shall be no less than 90% of OE sample.

3.Insulation Resistance
Purpose: This test shall verify the part’s resistance to loss of insulation. A loss of insulation could result in electrical performance degradation and signal interference.
Procedure:Use the test methods according to ISO 16750-2, “Insulation Resistance”.
Criteria: Devices under test shall have an insulation resistance of at least 90% of OE. If insulation resistance is less than 90% of OE, magnet wire insulation is not adequate and needs to be revised.

4.Salt Spray Test
Purpose: This test shall verify the device under test is able to withstand the environment experienced in an engine bay.
Procedure: Subject one (1) device under test to 120 hours of salt spray per ASTM B117-07a.
Criteria: Device under test shall not show signs of red rust, and device under test’s signal output shall not degrade more than 10% of pre salt spray test’s performance.

5.Extreme Heat Age Test
Purpose: This test shall verify the device under test is able to withstand extremely high temperature scenarios that can be experienced by larger displacement engines and heavy duty diesel engines.
Procedure: Subject one (1) device under test and one (1) OE sample to 1500C for eight (8) hours and measure signal output degradation at one (1) mm air gap. If part needs to be removed from thermal chamber, OE remove and test within one hundred eighty (180) seconds from removal of thermal chamber. If no degradation, repeat test up to ten (10) times for a total of eighty (80) hours, or until degradation occurs on either OE or device under test.
Criteria: Device under test signal output shall not degrade more than 10% of pre-extreme heat age test functional test results. If device under test degradation exceeds 10% of pre-extreme heat age functional test results, or completely fails, device under test fails and need to be revised. If the OE sample degradation exceeds device under test’s degradation, or fails at any point during the test and device under test still functions (even if signal output degredation exceeds 10%), the test can be terminated and device under test passes. If minimal (<10%) or no degradation occurs in either OE or device under test after eighty (80) hours of testing, test can be terminated and device under test passes.

6.Thermal Cycle with Vibration Test
Purpose: This test shall verify that the component is resistant to the vibration and temperature cycling that occurs in an engine bay.
Procedure: Reference ISO 16750-3. Three (3) devices under test and OE sample are to be mounted to the vibration fixture the way parts are mounted on the engine using class 10.9 hardware of appropriate size. Each axis needs to be tested for 75 hours, for a total of 225 hours.
Criteria: After vibration and thermal cycling each axis, perform functional test 1 at 1mm air gap on devices under test and OE as soon as possible to measure degradation. If device under test degradation exceeds 10% of pre vibration test performance, or completely fails, parts fail and need to be revised. If the OE part fails at any point in the test, and devices under test still function, continue the testing and document when the OE sample fails.
