The Ultimate "Mechanical Restoration" E53 – Rare 6-Speed Manual
This is a lifelong California car with a clean title and a 100% rust-free frame. This has been a dedicated restoration project focused on creating a mechanically perfect driving machine. As an LCI Facelift model, it features the updated xDrive system and the 6-speed manual transmission. I purchased a new m54 3.0 engine through a local bmw dealership. [Peake] Again, this is not a rebuilt nor refurbished engine. The engine now has roughly 5000 miles on it.
The following were all installed at the same time to ensure a perfect mechanical baseline:
New Engine: Factory-new unit ordered directly from Germany via a local BMW dealership (not a rebuild).
New Drivetrain: New clutch and New Single Mass Flywheel. The entire front axle is new and therefore so are the CV boots.
New control arm bushings, and new ball joints.
Recent Maintenance (Within the Last Year):To ensure the car remains a turn-key daily driver, the following were replaced in the last 12 months:
Electrical: Brand new battery, new alternator, and new starter. I just replaced the light control module as well.
Aesthetics & Exterior: New Wheels.
New Professional Tint: Recently applied. Tires & Brakes: Both have less than 10,000 miles of wear.
Body: Zero rust. The paint is presentable but not perfect; the focus was on mechanical perfection.
Why This X5? This is a "forever" car for an enthusiast. You get the classic E53 feel with a manual gearbox, but without the 20-year-old mechanical risks. I have the full folder of receipts and invoices.
The gentleman who did the work is quite honestly the best mechanic I have ever been around and I have been around some extraordinary mechanics being from California. If you currently own a BMW, then you will want to know this man. My intent behind this work was to never purchase another car again. This was a clients car from California originally, and we took care of it for years. I purchased from said client and we were familiar with its history.
Why am I selling it now? My life as changed. I lift weights passionately but the consequence of that passion has led me to a bodyweight of over 280 pounds and being 6 foot 2 on top of that, getting in and out the car is just not comfortable anymore. And yes, I bought a truck.
I never performed any of this work with the intent of selling it.
My message to the individual who wishes to buy this is the following: I have done everything from a mechanical standpoint and now you get to do the fun stuff, paint and maybe some stagged wheels with some nice Michelins. This is one of the most reliable BMWs that I know of and I hope the person who buys this truly enjoys and appreciates the work and expense that I have put into it. You simply won't find another like it.
