Starter’s Role in Engine Starting System
The starter motor (also called the cranking motor) is a key component in the engine starting system of gasoline and diesel vehicles. Its core role is to convert electrical energy from the vehicle’s battery into mechanical energy, and drive the engine’s crankshaft to rotate at a sufficient speed, so that the engine can complete the intake, compression, ignition and exhaust cycles required for self-sustaining operation.
