This ethnographic study of indigenous rights in Puerto Rico examines the historical, institutional, and interactional dimensions of Taíno/Boricua activism in Puerto Rico. The study shows how activists have reconfigured historical narratives, leading to the recent public emergence of Taíno/Boricua as a social identification. The study draws on participant observation, interviews, and oral histories, as well as methods of linguistic anthropology.
