Here is a passive ribbon microphone from Eight Button Mics. This Ex-Calrad model (for some reason eBay insists on calling it a Reslo, which it isn't)?!! started life as a 1960's Japanese crystal microphone. These where sold under various brand names and mimiced the classic RCA ribbon microphones of previous decades. However they failed to mimic the sound and even when new were pretty awful. So it has been reimagined. Out came the crystal elements and in their place now sits a nice ribbon motor of Chinese manufacture. The transform which compliments it is a hand wound unit made in the U.K. by. FAB Microphones. It is their Metrone model. So this passive ribbon microphone now sound and behaves much more like the classic microphone that the original makers intended.
Please note. As with all passive ribbon microphones a good, clean preamp in the signal chain helps bring out the sonic wonder of this microphone.
