How to use ?
You will need to make a base in order to use this jig.
The opening on the fretboard radius jig is 145mm wide. You will need 2 pieces of 18mm plywood or mdf cut to width as the opening. I found best is to cut slightly smaller in order to be able to move jig smoothly 144.5mm for example. Those 2 pieces need to be glued/screwed together to provide total height of 36mm. This will allow you to use fretboards of thickness 6-8.5mm. Less than 36mm height is not recommended as it will change the radius. Then those 2 pieces are fixed onto bigger piece of ply or similar. On my base I passed a long edges with roundover bit. This can be done with orbital sander or similar. I like to apply a bit of wax as this will make operation smoother.
The base legs and radiused part of the jig will come unassembled. The legs are pre-slotted and you will have to apply some glue and insert the radiused part in.
Place your fretboard blank on, and using a strong double sided tape fix your fretboard. Allign the centre-line of your fretboard blank with centre-line on fretboard radius jig and move the jig from side to side or along the fretboard. (I would recommend along the fretboard).
Important!
The base of the jig is not secured on the arched piece of the jig and it's resting on bearings only. Keep this in mind when using the jig as serious injury may occur if not used with caution. Hold the base from the top and keep fingers away from under the base.
