The ST-USAM provides a method to verify wiring continuity "streak" from the USAM backplane to the frame or DSX-1 (USAM Triple DS1 applications). At the far end (Frame or DSX-1) simply ground the connection point & the ST-USAM will light the LED associated with that connection. The wiring label indicates both 6 circuit & triple DS1 pin outs. The ST-USAM is powered by a 9V battery and tests card slots in non-powered shelves.
