I am offering for sale this beautiful, like-new Gillette ATRA razor handle. The "Atra" razor was Gillette's first flexible head twin-blade razor, made by Gillette in the LATE 1970'S through the late1980's.
The name "ATRA" comes from location of the field testing of this razor "Australian Test RAzor".
Tested first in Australia this razor was such a hit that when it came on the market in 1977 it immediately almost totally replaced Gillette's double-edge safety razors that had been popular through most of the 20th century.
I have personally found the Atra razor to be a good half-way point between the "expensive" multi-blade cartridges and the "easy-to-cut-yourself with" double edge safety razors.
Cartridges for this popular razor are still available from Gillette and Personna, both in local drug and discount stores and on eBay. In my local discount store, Personna Twin Pivot cartridges sell for 10 for $3.00 -- much cheaper than the expensive multi-blade cartridges that sell from $3.00 - $6.00 EACH.
A recent article on a "wet shaving" web site pointed out that two blades shave as effectively as 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 blades. The additional blades do nothing more than two blades do.
The Atra gives you a great shave at a great price.
