These decals are manufactured using vinyl that closely matches the original period-correct thickness. Unlike modern motocross graphics, they are NOT produced from heavy-duty, thick vinyl. Each decal is professionally printed and laminated to provide improved durability and ease of installation while maintaining an authentic, period-correct appearance.
Important – Application to Plastic Fuel Tanks
When applying decals to a plastic fuel tank, please be aware that fuel vapours can become trapped within the plastic over time. These vapours may migrate through the tank surface and cause decals to lift or bubble. Before installation, it may be necessary to restore or prepare the tank to allow any trapped vapours to dissipate.
For best results, the use of a quality fuel tank sealer such as “Casswell” is recommended. A tank sealer helps prevent fuel vapours from permeating through the plastic, reducing the risk of decal failure. This is a common issue with plastic fuel tanks and, as an added benefit, some tank sealers can also help reduce the likelihood of tank cracking. If applying decals to a steel fuel tank, they may be clear-coated during the painting process if desired.
Installation Recommendations
The soapy water application method is highly recommended, as it allows the decals to be accurately positioned and helps minimise air bubbles during installation. When applying decals to curved surfaces, the use of a heat gun may be required to activate the adhesive and assist in conforming the vinyl to the shape of the surface.
It is recommended that alcohol-based cleaners are NOT used on plastic surfaces prior to installation, as they may react with the vinyl and affect adhesion or appearance.
