Vehicle Description
For consignment, a 1960 Chevrolet Impala convertible with a title verified 100,010 actual miles. This car received a frame off restoration and has been garaged in a climate controlled environment ever since.
Exterior
Spectacular two stage Tasco Turquoise is contrasted by the white canvas top and on the contrail of the fantastic jet shaped trim on the side, pointed forward and leaving a white stripe that stretches to the back. Turn that corner, and we find the triple tail light configuration with the center reverse light sandwiched between red, cone shaped lights. Polished trim on the end of the horizontal fins accentuates them and breaks the long stretch of red that comes from the decklid, flanked by rearward canted antennae and from this angle we would not be surprised if this car could fly. The open cabin is fronted by a sharply curved front windshield while a quartet of trim ornamentation dressed the front fenders. 14-inch wheels are colored keyed and wear the proper covers, partially obscured in back of course, by the fender skirts. Overall, the paint, polished trim, chrome bumpers, and white top are in great condition. Imperfections include a few areas of cracked paint, minor bubbling, and a ding in the taillight trim.
Interior
Turquoise and white houndstooth inserts dress up the door panels that include turquoise vinyl panels, polished trim, and a bold red and chrome accent piece and both present cleanly. That houndstooth reappears in the inserts of the split bench seat, framed in vinyl panels and mirrored on the bench seating in back, and all are show quality. Talk about a show, the bright blue steering wheel with the boomerang horn ring fronts a dash that layers shiny turquoise around five gauges and perforated stainless steel around the knobs in the mid dash. There's an AM radio on board and Impala rubber mats protect the looped turquoise carpet below, both in great shape. The angled shaft of the shifter results in the ball knob reaching the driver at the perfect position as it rises from the floor. The trunk is pristine looking with a vinyl mat covering wall to wall and a matching white wall tire spare secured to the floor with a stock style jack.
Drivetrain
Whistle clean and bright orange, the date correct 348ci V8 makes a bold visual appearance in the bay and with 280 horses on hand, bold potential. To fuel this monster, three 2-barrel carburetors hide under the air cleaner. The motor is mated to a T10 4-speed manual transmission that routes power to the rear axle with 3.70 gears.
Undercarriage
Wow, a combination of satiny black paint, red oxide primer, and clean metals make for a show worthy underside! The dual exhaust runs through stock style mufflers, both of which show they gently scraped the ground, and then contours to the X-frame as the pipes head back to clean steel exhaust pipes. Suspension includes coil springs at both ends with a 3 link in back and power steering is supplied up front. Power drum brakes are employed at all four wheels.
Drive-Ability
We roll this long turquoise car onto the test loop where the 348 proves to be big fun, happily accelerating ahead as the car tracks straight and true. Even with the top up, visibility is still quite good and a deep dash pad allows for the wrap around windshield. The engine, braking, and handling all score high, but we note some things that are not working. That includes the clock, odometer, radio, heater blower, and reverse lights. All remaining functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Listing 1960 Impalas is a bit like Whack-a-Mole! We set them up, and they get scooped up quicker than that determined mole. So, here's another iconic beauty on our showroom floor. Put a mallet in one hand, the phone in the other, and get your running shoes on. This one won't be grazing on Classic Auto Mall grass very long!
